Don't let yourself become lost in thought. Use A Theme To Your Advantage And Become More Concentrated
Who knows what happened to the passing of the hours? When we are caught up in the daily grind, it might feel like whole seasons fly by in the blink of an eye. Also, our objectives...well, they're liable to get lost in the shuffle. If you want to WAKE UP, you'll need to take charge of your time and accomplish your objectives. However, how?
In coaching, it's common to refer to one's life as a work in progress. To put it another way, our lives are like rivers, continually flowing along despite the highs and lows of our daily experiences. Humans are notorious for trying to avoid feeling the highs and lows of life by making plans for the future, dwelling on the past, and so on. Thus, we get drowsy and lose our sense of being in the world. We "wake up" to the realization that minutes, days, or even weeks had passed us by because that's exactly what happens!
Have you ever been in the driver's seat of a vehicle and realized you'd arrived at your destination without warning? What have you been up to lately, anyway? That much is certain: you're not here! But what does it actually mean to be present in your daily life?
It's challenging to put all your concentration on this one thing right now. Try it out for yourself: Slow down while you read these words. Try reading one word at a time to get a feel for the experience. Are there any particular noises that catch your attention in the room where you're sitting? What would you say is your level of comfort? What's the quality of your breathing? Become aware of the fact that you are alive and well at the moment. What was your experience like?
Here's something more to try. Feel free to make fun of me, but give this a go. A new way of being in the present may open up for you as a result. Ask yourself, "Where's my butt?" throughout the day. In a chair, of course. Face-to-face with an obstruction? What do you see as you go by the consignment store on Main? As absurd as it may seem, attempting to locate your rump while not being present is almost impossible!
OK! Now that you've tried rump-awareness, you've undoubtedly heard of other techniques for being present in the moment, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, meditation, and so on. Now widen the concept: how can you be present and focused on a project or goal in your life? Decide on a general idea for your project.
For example, consider the following scenario: For instance, "fun and inspired action" is the theme of my business this year. This template acts as a screen. Using my monthly theme, I reevaluate my business objectives and prioritize those that will be the most enjoyable for me and the most inspiring to both myself and my customers. When coming up with new projects to work on, I search for ones most in line with my guiding concept. For example, I recently appeared on a radio program and spoke at the University of Maryland because my subject encourages me to explore new chances. These are adventures I never dreamed of having, but they came my way, met the requirements, and were a TON of FUN!
My client's employment hunt has a theme for the month: action! He's a man of action, and he has some lofty job interview aspirations. "Does this advance my activity toward my goals?" is his mantra as he takes each step. You must see this man — he is a blazing torch!
What do YOU want the theme to be? Get up and be on fire, too, for it's time for you to wake up.
